Aftercare Instructions

How to care for your new tattoo:
  • The bandage you received with your tattoo is waterproof, so showering with the bandage on is fine. Do not let water spray directly at the bandage and do not scrub the bandage.

  • Leave bandage on tattoo for up to one week. If a corner of the bandage starts to peel up, just press it back down. If the bandage peels up enough to expose the tattoo or if the bandage starts to leak, remove it immediately.

  • To remove the bandage, run it under hot water to loosen the adhesive. Grab a corner of the bandage and stretch it along the plane of the skin. Do not yank it off quickly.

  • Once the bandage is removed, gently clean the tattoo with water and your hand. Pat the tattoo dry.

  • Apply a fragrance-free hand lotion to the tattoo 5-7 times daily for one month.

  • If the tattoo itches, do not scratch the tattoo. This usually means the tattoo is dry and needs more lotion.

  • The tattoo will peel a little like a sunburn. This usually takes 1-3 weeks. Before the tattoo is done peeling, do not submerge it in standing water (e.g. bath tubs, swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, rivers, oceans). Showering is always fine, but do not scrub the tattoo.

  • Scabs may form on the tattoo. If they do, leave the scabs on until they fall off naturally.

  • Avoid sun exposure, including tanning beds, while the tattoo is healing (the first 1-2 months). Even after the tattoo is done healing, sun exposure will lighten the tattoo. Use sunscreen whenever it will be exposed.
